Basic SEO Services For Ease Of Understanding

When it comes to SEO services, There are many different techniques that can be implemented. At first glance we could easily talk about 30 or 40 different methods and those are just the common ones that you might have already heard about, such as link building, social networking, and article marketing. These are just three out hundreds of possibilities.

But just knowing about them is not enough. What can make a difference to you and your business is how to implement the different strategies that are available. Not only do you need to know which strategies to use, but how they interact with each other. Making a dedicated marketing plan that can be implemented for greater impact then the sum of its parts.

What are the basics that you need to know and understand in order to get started with basic SEO services?

SEO or Search Engine Optimization comes as two basic options, we refer to these as “on-Site” and “Off-Site” factors.

On-site SEO – these are factors that are specific to the website, or more specifically the individual webpage that is being optimized. These include such factors as:

  • Page Titles
  • Heading Tags – H1, H2, H3 etc
  • Keyword Content
  • Bold Fonts, Italics, Underlining
  • Meta Tags (description, keyword)
  • Image Tags

Off-Site SEO – includes anything and everything that is not directly on the page you are optimizing for. This list can be quite long, but the most common include:

  • Link-building
    • Social Media
    • Branding
    • Press Releases
    • Blogging
    • Forums

In truth, the off-site factors mostly fall under “link-building” as a whole, however there are a few more options that will be discussed as a later date.

Even though search engines, such as Google, will tell you that link building is “not” effective, the truth of the matter is that the Internet is all about link-building. The rick is to have the right types of links. Since links fall into many different categories it is important to optimize your strategies in order to make the process both profitable and effective.

The main reason I lump many items into link-building is simply due to the fact that doing many things without having a link back to your website is quite ineffective.

Here’s a good example: Press Releases.

In the past, many companies would put out press releases on a regular basis. This could be for any newsworthy information, such as a merger, new staff, quarterly earnings reports or just about anything.

However, many companies would put these releases out without placing a link back to their website. In a situation such as this companies would send the press release out to be syndicated across hundreds of news sites. The links from high traffic news sites are highly effective as links and any press release without at least one link is a missed opportunity.

Regardless of whether you are using forums, link directories, or blogging, they all premise upon the use of keyword specific links that will point back to a website that you wish to rank. The links must be of the right types and proportions in order to be most effective. This is where the different types such as social linking, directory listings and such come into play. There are also other factors, such as the sites that are linking to your page, the so-called “good or bad link neighborhoods.

As the saying goes, “not all links are created equal”. Once you understand which types of links you will also understand where to place your efforts to maximize your link building campaigns.
